My friend Beth Vogt blogged yesterday about “meet-cute“–that moment when the guy and the girl meet in the movie for the first time. Her post reminded me of some of my favorite romantic comedies, including The Holiday.
Hubby and I have had a long, hard week, so maybe we need to pop some popcorn, curl up on the couch together and have a date night at home watching movies. I’ll pick a romantic comedy, and he can finally see the new Transformer movie he picked up at Walmart the other day. That way, we’re both satisfied, yet appeasing each other.
Your Turn: What’s your favorite romantic comedy? Does your spouse or significant other watch them with you? What new release or old favorite would you recommend?
My hubby watches them with me. I love him for that. I have lots of rom-coms that I love. The Proposal. 27 Dresses. He's Just Not that Into You.
Dan in Real Life. Makes me laugh and feel that great sentimental, romantic feeling.
~ Wendy
Katie, I love and own The Proposal and 27 Dresses. I've seen He's Just Not that Into You, but it's not on my keeper shelf yet.
Wendy, that was such a good movie. Made me laugh and cry in parts. I agree about the sentimental, romantic feeling.
Hubby always watches with me, but if I'm to be honest, I don't always watch "his" movies. Some just creep me out too much.
We are planning a popcorn and PJ date (with the girls, too,) this Saturday night to watch the new release of Scream, I think it's 4 or 5 now. Not my type of movie, but this one's for hubby!
All time favorite romantic movie? Hubby and I have lots, but Sweet Home Alabama and Proposal pop into mind right away.
I'm going to go old school and say While You Were Sleeping and My Big Fat Greek Wedding are my favorite rom-coms.
So, I have a history of making trade-offs with boys about movies. (I'm not married yet, so yes, it's perfectly acceptable to say boys with an 's'!) Worst trade-off I ever made – getting a guy to watch Anne of Green Gables in return for me watching 8 Seconds. UNFAIR! Yes, my movie lasted longer, but seriously, did he have to make me watch a movie where Keifer Sutherland, in his pre-Jack Bauer days, gets gored by a bull AT THE END?! Sorry if I just ruined that movie for anyone, but I've saved you tears.
Also, I'm a classic movie lover…not talking early 90s rom-coms here. I'm talking the golden studio era when Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart and Clark Gable wooed Katherine Hepburn, Carole Lombard and Vivien Leigh. Ahhh, good stuff…hopefully the man who marries me will understand my fascination and put up with my ever-growing dvd collection of black and whites… ๐
I'm with Melissa (not on trade-offs) on loving old movies. I love Bringing Up Baby and movies like that. And While You Were Sleeping. And The Proposal … and yeah, my husband watches them with me. But we'll also watch Die Hard too! (And not under protest!)
Hubby and I both enjoy a good romantic comedy. I'm lucky I guess. ๐
Eileen, I love Sweet Home Alabama and The Proposal too. My hubby doesn't really watch creepy movies. He prefers action films. Sometimes they have a little creep factor in them though.
Erica, those two are on my keeper shelf. I've seen them many times, but I never tire of them.
Melissa, loved 8 Seconds until the end! I don't care that it was based on a true story. I still wanted a HEA.
As for the guy you marry–don't marry him unless he appreciates ALL things about you. Don't settle.
I love Audrey Hepburn. Breakfast at Tiffany's. ๐ I don't watch a lot of classics, but I've seen a few. Loved Casablanca, Gone With the Wind, An Affair to Remember.
V.V., sounds like you're both lucky to have each other. ๐
