Freedom From Crashes: A God of Second Chances

After our youngest son had learned to ride his bike, he earned the nickname, “Crash.”

One afternoon, he and Hubby had gone for a ride down the main drive in our neighborhood. Our son wiped out on a patch of gravel alongside the road, resulting in bloody gashes on his knee and elbow.

Hubby helped him to his feet, dried his tears, encouraged him to ride home and tended to his wounds.

Christians can experience crashes in their spiritual journeys. When we take our eyes of Jesus and focus on the gravel patches that life puts in our paths, we are apt to spin out and crash.

We land crumpled at the feet of Jesus in the most humblest of positions. We cry out as our hearts ache from bruises and bloody gashes. He offers His hand to lift us to our feet. He cradles us against His chest and dries our tears. He cleanses our wounds and renews our spirits. Then He returns us to the path He’s laid before us.

We serve a God of second chances. No matter what past mistakes we’ve made, He is willing to create in us a pure heart just for the asking. He longs to restore the joy of our salvation.

Your Turn: Are you feeling bloody and bruised by life’s crashes? Share a time when you’ve needed God to help you to your feet and tend to your wounds.

You know, I don’t know if this qualifies as a “crash,” but I have been feeling that, “Dude, am I just going through the motions?” feeling lately. There are times when my faith feels so alive…and others when it’s just…bland. But I love what you said…God longs to restore the joy of my salvation. So true. And so…impacting when I really take it to heart. I don’t have to do the restoring…He’s there to breath new life into my faith walk.

Thanks for the encouragement today, LJ!

God is always picking me up and dusting me off. I’m so thankful we have a God of second, and third, and one hundred chances! Great post.

God has definitely been picking me up and setting me back on my feet lately. So much drama has been going on…hardships…trials…but God is faithful. I am finding that the Lent season has been such a blessing for me. I love the focus!

I often wonder why it always seems to take us falling, or flat out crashing in some cases, before we turn to the Lord for help. We might be cautious & put on a helmet of protection. But ultimately we race down the road, our eyes fixed on the destination that we are determined to reach on our own. How many scraped knees will it take before we finally understand we were never meant to take the ride alone.
